Accident Updates
On September 6, 2004, Joey, Carla, and their youngest daughter Amy were involved in a car accident that rolled their full size van twice, sending the three of them to the hospital. Joey had minimal injuries, and Amy had glass imbedded in parts of her body and a broken ankle. Carla was in a coma with over 20 hematomas in her brain, a broken neck and a crushed spine that threatened her life. These, along with several other injuries including a broken wrist, fractured hip, and broken leg, were the subject of several surgeries over the next several weeks. The swelling in her brain subsided after two weeks, and she was on the road to recovery.
Her recovery has been incredible, and nothing short of a miracle. After being told she wouldn’t survive the initial brain injuries, the pressure in her brain subsided, beginning to heal itself. Next, she was told she would never walk again, and with God’s grace, and countless hours of physical therapy, she is well on her way to going from a wheelchair to a walker.
It has been a long road, and periodically, updates are emailed out to friends and family. The two most recent updates are always posted here. Thank you for your prayers!

October 2010 (written by Carla Link)
I know it has been awhile since we have communicated with you. I count on your prayers daily and I thank you for them. Three weeks ago, we were in Chicago to celebrate our son’s birthday with him, (and I got to go maternity clothes shopping with my daughter-in-law! We will be first-time grandparents this spring!) While there, I started to get really sick.
When my doctors changed my nerve and pain medication this summer, I had a bad serotonin reaction. We finally got the right dose figured out, and things have been going well. My broken ankle has healed, (Praise the Lord!) and I started physical therapy again. They told me the reason my knee gave out is the quad muscle in that leg is worn down and not working well.
I have been doing well in therapy, although to work muscles that were quiet for 2 and 1/2 months causes considerable pain. While I could take two pain pills, I usually only needed to take one. I started taking two at a time to deal with the pain from starting physical therapy. I developed shakes, tremors, nausea, and more on that Chicago trip. And Joey took me to the ER for 6 hour of treatment upon returning home.
I stopped taking the pain pill to let my system stabilize. The incredible thing is that I have had very little pain since then! For the past three weeks, I may take one pain pill a day! I continue to walk every day as I am allowed and continue in both swim and land therapy. The pain I have at this point is manageable.
Thank you for your prayers! Please don’t stop!! I continually thank God for answering them.
“I will give thanks to the Lord all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders! I will be glad and exalt in you; I will sing praises to Your name, O most high.”
(Pslam 9:1-2 (NASB))
We are getting ready to leave for several weeks on the road. We will teaching in OH, TN, GA, FL, LA, and TX. We also have a family wedding in Pensacola, FL.
Please continue praying for us in the next few weeks:
1. The pain stays away!
2. My quad muscles get strong.
3. I will pace myself well.
4. Joey as he drives the miles through these states.
5 The teaching will be received by hearts that are willing to hear.
We love you and we pray for you when we think of you.
